Disturbed with the ‘‘tape terror tactics’’ of the Samajwadi Party, a revengeful Mayawati has launched a political and administrative crackdown on her bete noire, Mulayam Singh Yadav, and his party legislators.
Raids were conducted today at schools that have members of Mulayam’s family in its management committees in Etawah district following reports that the SP MPs and MLAs had contributed to the school coffers from their development funds on a large scale, Meanwhile, two SP MPs, who have been expelled by the party, have launched a crusade to ‘‘expose Mulayam and Amar Singh Company’’ by taking out tours in parts of eastern UP.
Sources said that on Mayawati’s directives, the chief secretary has directed the District Magistrates in all districts of the state to prepare a list of beneficiaries of the CM’s discretionary fund during the tenure of Mulayam and ordered that FIRs should be lodged against those who could not give details of the expenditure.
Sources also tipped that a number of journalists and leaders of the SP had been major beneficiaries of the discretionary fund at the command of Mulayam while he was the CM between 1993 to 95. A number of beneficiaries had been given money on fictitious reason including in the name of schools which were non existent and now they are likely to face the music, courtesy Mayawati’s revenge spree.
‘‘During his tenure the party leaders who had been given money from the CM’s discretionary fund, had to deposit half of the total amount in the party coffers. With what morality can Mulayam claim that Mayawati had been asking her party MPs and MLAs to contribute to the party coffers out of their development funds while the fact was that it was he (Mulayam) who started this practice?;’’ charged Bhal Chandra Yadav, the expelled SP MP from Khalilabad, who has now joined the BSP.
‘‘I myself had given Rs 5 lakh to Mulayam after getting Rs 10 lakh out of the CM’s discretionary fund. I have proof of that payment and can give affidavit if need be,’’ said Rama Kant Yadav, the second MP expelled by the SP and now with the BSP. Sources also said that an elaborate list had been prepared at the government level of legislators in the SP who have criminal background and they are likely to face police action.
The SP, on its part, has claimed that nothing was recovered from raids conducted by the police in the schools at Etawah. ‘‘All jobs in these schools have been done through the DMs and CDOs and even the legislators and MPs who had given funds for development of schools had routed the money through administrative channel.
The action should be taken against the officials as she will get nothing against our family through these raids being conducted as a political vendetta,’’ alleged Shivpal, SP General secretary and Mulayam’s younger brother.
