Facing resentment within his party over ticket distribution, Samajwadi Party chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today clarified to party workers that “he was not the almighty and could not make everyone happy”. At the same time, he also assured partymen that he would accommodate all those aspiring for the Assembly ticket on important posts if they promised to bring him back to power.
Making last-minute changes in his schedule to address the press conference here, Mulayam said the UP elections were a “decisive battle”. “If SP comes to power it will change the picture of the whole country and SP will play a major role in this change,” Mulayam said.
He also presented leaders of the Rashtriya Lok Dal who have defected from their party to join hands with the SP. The names included Trilok Tyagi, who Mulayam instantly nominated as a national general secretary.
Meanwhile, party leader Amar Singh reached Lucknow today evening to help Mulayam give a final shape to the last list of party candidates. The party is yet to decide nominees for about 100 seats.
‘NCP proposal of Rahul, Supriya rally amusing’
NEW DELHI: Congress on Friday dismissed as “amusing” the NCP proposal of organising a joint election campaign for Rahul Gandhi and Supriya Sule in the Uttar Pradesh polls if it withdrew its candidate in favour of NCP nominee in Allahabad (North) seat. “We are highly amused. It is a funny kind of humour,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said when asked about the NCP proposal. “We do not consider it as a serious political proposal,” he said adding that some entertainment was good for health. — PTI
