LUCKNOW, MAY 24: The Etawah police yesterday arrested a nephew of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Anupam, son of Samajwadi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Ram Gopal Yadav, for “accidentally” killing his younger brother, Asit, official sources said here today.

According to the police, Asit was wounded yesterday when a double-barrel gun which Anupam was loading went off. He was declared dead at the hospital.

The police arrested Anupam after an FIR was lodged under Section 304 of the IPC (attempt to murder) and seized the weapon.

Interestingly, the gun with which Asit was killed was a licensed weapon and in possession of his elder brother whom the police have claimed to be a mentally deranged person. Principal Secretary (Home) V K Mittal had no answer when he was asked by newspersons why then a licence was issued to him.

A minor case of abetment to suicide was registered against the son of the Minister of State for Uttarakhand Ram Narayan Das and the police guard provided to his father after their domestic servant “fell” from their apartment on the sixth floor of the multi-storeyed residential complex for ministers at Dalibagh Colony on Sunday morning.

The 22-year-old servant, Dinesh, had been allegedly accused of stealing Rs 15,000. “Whether he was murdered or himself jumped from the balcony will be ascertained in the post-mortem report.” said Mittal.

A few days back an ice-cream parlour employee had been shot dead in the heart of the city allegedly by the son of a senior police official posted in Lucknow. He has been arrested but the case is yet to progress.
