Two children hurt in blast

  • Two children were injured when an unidentified object with which they were playing exploded at Ganesh Kripa Seva Sangh grounds in Dindoshi area of Goregaon on Saturday.
  • The injured Balkrishna Pawar (14) and Sandeep Pawar (12) were rushed to Bhagwati hospital. Two months ago a film had been shot at the same ground where a scene of explosion had been enacted. It was possible that one of the bombs used in the shooting could have been left over at the site, police said adding that a case of negligence had been registered.

    Railway workers threaten stir

  • Over ten lakh railway employees belonging to classes three and four all over the country have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from March 28 to protest various demands not being met.
  • The Indian Railway Technical Staff Association has demanded better wages for its members and the scrapping of the Anomalies Committee, which was constituted to look into the problems regarding the Fifth PayCommission. It has also called for an increase in the number of promotions for the technical staff and the formation of a separate pay commission for railways. It also wants the vacancies in the organisation to be filled up.

    Case on cruelty to circus animals

  • Vashi police station today registered a complaint against Great Golden Circus under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for making infirm animals perform at the big top in Navi Mumbai.
  • The complaint was lodged by Ahimsa’, an organisation striving for welfare of animals.

    According to Dr Satnam Ahuja, secretary of Ahimsa, she was informed about cruelty to animals by a visitor to the circus on Saturday. Ahuja, who is also animal welfare officer appointed by Animal Welfare Board, alleged that elephants were tied to iron stripes and were suffering from footrot’ (cracks in feet).
