Amar Naik men nabbed
The crime branch arrested three top lieutenants of the Amar Naik gang, including the director of Naik’s operations at the Mumbai end, on Wednesday.The arrested are Janardhan Daji Sakpal alias Janya, Santosh Eknath Jadhav alias Ekka and Suhas Patil. Janya is reportedly the topmost lieutenant of the Naik gang and allegedly masterminds operations in and around Mumbai. He is also the main accused in several murders, including those of Arun Gawli’s Akhil Bharatiya Sena (ABS) treasurer Ramdas Ambaokar, Pune-based builder Deepak Dev, Gawli’s associate Lalit Shah, ABS activist Nana Bhidye and electrical contractor Eknath Khanvilkar.
Builder threatened
Five unidentified men claiming to be from the Arun Gawli gang barged into the office of Malkani Builders at Jogeshwari and abused and threatened the builder, Yunus Malkani at 2 pm on Wednesday.
The intruders said they were sent by one Bandya Adivalekar, and demanded Rs 50 lakh from Malkani. Last year, Malkani hadreceived threats from Sada Pawle in July, following which he was provided with an armed escort. However, Pawle was killed in a police encounter last September, and with the parliamentary elections in February, the police security was withdrawn.

The T S Chanakya, a government of India Institute affiliated to the University of Mumbai which imparts training to merchant Navy Cadets, will celebrate its annual prize distribution day for the final year Bsc (Nautical Sciences) cadets on May 29 in the Institute’s campus at Nerul, Navi Mumbai. Capt C J Anand, chairperson, Indian Register of Shipping, will be the chief guest on the occasion and distribute prizes to 45 cadets who will complete their training.
