Kidney ailment detection camp

A free camp for detection of kidney-related diseases will be held at Guru Harkishan High School, Santacruz (West), on October 4. The camp aims at promoting non-surgical and minimally invasive medical procedures for treatment of these diseases.

WIAA president elections held

Nitin Dossa has been re-elected president of the Western Indian Automobile Association (WIAA) for a second term for the year 1998-99. Vimal Shah and Sumatiprasad Bafna have also been re-elected as first and second vice-presidents respectively.

Free surgical camp at Ghatkopar

A free surgical camp has been organised by the Lions Club of Mumbai (Uptown) on October 2. The camp will be held at Sarvodaya Hospital, L B S Marg, Ghatkopar (West).

Yakshagana literary conference

The eighth Yakshagana Literary Conference will be held at Dr Vishveshvarayya Smarak Mandir at Matunga between October 1 and 4. Senior Kannada writers and Yakshagana scholars will participate in theconference. For details, call H B L Rao on 7665671.

Demonstration by Deaf Pride

The Maharashtra Deaf Pride, an organisation working for the deaf and dumb, will hold a demonstration on October 5 at Azad Maidan. They are demanding concessions in bus fares, concessions for public telephone booths and employment opportunities in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Seminar on gender issues

A seminar titled `Women in the 21st century’ will be held by the Social service League in collaboration with Disha, a students’ organisation, on October 2. The seminar will take place at Mumbai Marathi Granthsangrahalay, Dadar. For details, call on 4114407/4131173.
