Dharna by MHADA workers Around 2,000 employees of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) will be holding a dharna outside the MHADA office at Bandra on Saturday to protest the authorities' decision to return around 30 acres of land to the state government.At a board meeting on Thursday, a Shiv Sena member tabled a proposal to return vacant land worth crores at Bandra reclamation to the state government. It also passed a proposal to return around 30 acres of land at Malad, Dindoshi, to the state government. While the Bandra proposal was opposed by Madhu Chavan, chairman of the Repairs and Reconstruction Board and other BJP members and was finally referred back to the government for reconsideration, the Malad proposal was approved.This land worth Rs 36 crore situated at Malad-Dindoshi will be given to the Goregaon-based Prabodhan society. ``This threatens the very existence of our employees,'' said a MHADA official, ``since it will leave us with only a few acres of land inthe city to build houses for the underprivileged.'' The dharna, called by the MHADA Karmachari Sanghatana, will begin at 1.30 pm.Mill workers demand `50 %' Mill workers have proposed a `50 per cent' formula which will garner them a share of the proceeds of mill land sale. This was announced at a meeting held on Thursday organised by the Girni Kamgar Sangharsh Samiti.The workers have now said in the event of mill land sale, workers should have rights over 50 per cent of the land. And in case the land gets sold, they should get 50 per cent of the proceeds.Meena Menon of the GKSS told Express Newsline, ``We've been opposing the sale of mill land based on our experience that land sale proceeds have never been utilised for reviving the mill.
