Meet on health of elderly

The Geriatric clinic of the LTM Medical College and Hospital and the Geriatric Society of India have organised a symposium on health related problems in the elderly on March 26 from 10.30 am at the Medicine Lecture Hall, 1st floor, College building. Prof M E Yeolekar will deliver the keynote address on Cardiovascular problems in the elderly’.

ZED’s virtual university

ZEE Education has launched ZED Virtual University, a concept in distance learning that provides an anytime, anyplace ‘ learning experience. The training methodology involves use of satellite, videos, ZED Online, books audiotapes and personal contact sessions based on the needs of the course and the student. ZED Virtual Univ offers courses in vocational and career preparatory areas namely Management, Personality development, Probationary Officers’ Examination, Management Entrance Examination and Office Administration. The project is backed by educational institutions like SNDT Women’s University,Guru Ghasidas University and NMIMS.

Rally by mohalla committees

Mohalla committees in the city along with the police stations of Bandra, Khar and Santacruz have organised a silent rally for peace and harmony on March 28. The rally will commence from different points in Bandra, Khar and Santacruz at 8.30 am and culminate at Khar Gymkhana grounds at about 10.15 am.

The rally will be flagged off from the Anjuman-Islam Girls’ High School, Khar Railway Station and Daulat Nagar in Bandra, Khar and Santacruz, respectively by the local Senior Inspectors of Police. Members of local street committees, religious organisations, local NGOs and youth groups will participate in the rally.

Personality workshop

The Aavishkar Clinic has organised a weekend workshop for adolescents in the age group of 14 to 21 years at Neral, near Matheran. The workshop will focus on developing skills of communication, assertiveness and decision making. For Group I, the workshop will be held on April 3 and 4, andregistration has to be done before March 31. For Group II, the workshop is on March 17 and 18, and the last date for registration is April 10.

Book on slain missionary

Burnt Alive, a book on the life and murder of missionary Graham Stewart Staines and his two sons in Orissa on January 22, will be released on March 26 at 6 pm at Rahtor Memorial church in Parel. Another book in Marathi William Carey and the Regeneration of India by Vishal Mangalwadi, whose earlier works include Missionary Conspiracy: Letters to a Post Modern Hindu, India the Grand Experiment and World of Gurus will be released. Mangalwadi will also deliver a lecture India: The Reasons for Hope’, organised by RZIM Institute and Gospel Literature Service Publishing.
