Strike call by railwaymen

* Umraomal Purohit, president of All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) has called upon all the central government employees to launch an indefinite general strike in protest against the 5th pay commission recommendation. Purohit has warned the government that such pathetic attitude on part of an empowered committee appointed by the government is certainly going to create a serious crisis in which general strike by all central government employees is imminent.

Appeal for funds

* The Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Society of Jamshedpur, a social organisation rendering service in the field of education to the poor and needy, is planning to construct six buildings for a new school with all facilities. The cost of constructing the new building is estimated to be more than Rs nine crore. The society has appealed for the generous contribution from willing citizens to this end. Donations are exempted from Income Tax under section 80G of the Income Tax Act. Cheques, demand drafts may be sent in favour of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Society, Jamshedpur.

Reclassification

* Rapid urbanisation of the district of Thane has necessitated the reclassification of the rural regions of the district to reap benefits of development. A demand has been made to the Chief Minister Manohar Joshi by the vice president of the Thane district unit of the BJP Om Prakash Sharma who has reiterated the demand to reclassify the towns outside MMRDA limits and also to have proper developmental plans or layout plans to be prepared through government agency.

Sharma in his memorandum said that Thane was a unique district in the country since it has four municipal corporations with one more in the offing and about ten municipal councils. Palghar, Murbad, Shahapur, Wada, Mokhada, Jawhar, Dahanu and Talasari were being developed but without proper planning.
