CR services hit by derailment

  • Harbour line services on the Central Railway were affected following the derailment of a wagon of a goods train between King’s Circle and Matunga on Monday morning. The train was on its way to the Mumbai Port Trust yard when its wagon derailed. At least 20 trains on the harbour line between 2.25 am and 7.22 am were cancelled. Trains ran five to ten minutes late between 9.30 and 10 am.
  • New GOC appointed

  • Major General A R Kumar took over as the General Officer Commanding,Maharashtra and Gujarat, here on Monday. In his 34 years of service, the General has handled assignments in Jammu and Kasmir, Mizoram and Manipur. Prior to this, he held the position of an Additional Director General (Ceremonial & Welfare) at Army HQ, New Delhi. Maj Gen Kumar had also been awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished services in 1986.

  • Maharashtra Deaf Pride had organised Open Junior Athletic meet at Marine Lines onSaturday and Sunday. Jayesh Kale from Sadhana Vidyalaya for the Deaf school, Dadar was declared the best athlethe, while Mamata Lokhe from Vikas Vidyalaya for the Hearing Handicapped school, Dadar was best amongst girls. Vikas Vidyalaya for the Hearing Handicapped school secured the highest points for boys and girls with 23 and 19 points respectively.
  • Celebration for Mahashivratri

  • Siddha Yoga meditation centre plans to celebrate Mahashivratri on Wednesday. Swami Muktananda Paramahamsa (1908-1982) who established Siddha Yoga, taught the students there to recognise all pervasive presence of Shiva through the teaching of Kashmir Shaivism.
