The BEST has recently initiated a system to close the upper decks of double decker buses on some routes during non-peak hours. A statement issued here read the upper decks will be kept closed during early morning, late nights and also in the afternoon when the passenger load is meagre. By closing the upper deck, the BEST intends to cut costs of operation of the bus and thus utilise its conductors on other routes.

Govandi station

The Govandi bus station has been closed temporarily from November 22, 97 as the cement concreting work of

Govandi station road and N G Acharya Marg is being carried out by the BMC.

Due to the closure, the operation of bus on route numbers 360, 377 and 383 has been shifted to Deonar depot. However as Acharya marg is free for one-way traffic, these routes will ply from the Deonar depot via V N Purav road, Bhakt Kavi Shivjibhai Doshi road up to Gaodevi road and then via Acharya marg as usual.

The Forum for Fairness in Education, Western suburbs, Mumbai, is organising a public meeting on Centralisation of Junior College Admission on December 6 at Navin Thakker Auditorium, Gujarati Mandal Road, Vile Parle (E) from 3.30 to 6.30 pm. MESCO (Modern Educational Social and Cultural organisation) gives financial assistance to talented students belonging to the lower strata of society under its educational adoption scheme. It also gives free medicines to poor patients suffering from TB and financial assistance for undergoing high cost medical aid (HCMA) for cancer, ear and kidney ailments. Appointment

A K Sarma has assumed charge as regional director for the Western Region of the Department of Company Affairs. Sarma is an officer of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service and was earlier accountant general for Gujarat.
