This painting called The Second View From The Terrace will be part of the sale of the largest group of modern and contemporary Indian pictures at the Sotheby’s on May 8 in London. This 1835 painting is part of a series of five, titled Views of Bombay From Judge David Greenhill’s House On Mazagaon Hill. Judge Greenhill who first came to India as a writer to the East India Company in 1810 is said to have been particularly proud of his terrace which afforded him a five-cornered view of Bombay in all her splendour.

Felicitation

Members of the`Sindhunagar Vyapari Maha Mandal’ representing the trading community of Ulhasnagar felicitated the newly elected representatives including the mayor, deputy mayor and corporators. to seek an early solution to its mounting civic problems of this industrial city.

The president Thakurdas Bahrani, chairman Bansilal Hemdev and general secretary Bacho Rupchadani, presented a charter of demands to them regarding improvement of civic facilities.

School complex

Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, will felicitate Dr Mahesh Ajinkya, son of late Dr Sharad Chandra Ajinkya, who donated 200 acres of land for Keshav Shrishti, a prestigeous educational complex developed by Rashtriya Sevak Sangh (RSS). He will also felicitate Shriram Mantri who prepared the educational plan for the school and Rameshwarlal Kabra who has donated Rs 71 lakh for the cause at a function to be held here on Friday. The directors of the school will announce the formal opening of the school admission and disbursement of prospectus will be done at the hands of eminent educationist Dr Shantilal Somaiyya. The school affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi will start in June 1997 with Standard VI and VII for boys only. It will be a residential school with a view to providing modern education with emphasis on Indian cultural values. The Rs 10-crore-project of Ram Ratna Vidyamandir will be completed within four years. This ambitious educational project is located at Uttan village of Bhayandar, on a land of 200 acres. The entire area is now well- known as Keshav Shrishti named after the founder of RSS, Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.

Drama festival

Chembur Club, a cultural organisation, is conducting One Act Bengali Drama festival on Saturday, 3rd May 1997 at Sivaswamy auditorium, Fine Arts Cultural Centre Chembur.

TAC hearing

A sub-committee of the Tariff Advisory committee(TAC) will be holding a hearing on May 15 of all the aggrieved registered transporters and motor vehicle owners associations. The TAC at its apex body meeting on April 21 had decided to hold the recent increase in the third party premium rates in abeyance till june 30. A final decision is expected to come out of the hearings.
