MUMBAI, June 9: LAST week, the Shiv Sena supremo, Bal Thackeray felicitated Prabhakar Pawar, a veteran journalist of Shiv Sena mouthpiece, Saamna, on the release of his maiden book, Police Diary, in Marathi. The book comprises of over 70 weekly columns, published on every Monday by the same title. The book is a virtual an encyclopedia on crime in the metropolis, Thackeray remarked.
Burnt to death
Four hotel-workers were charred in a fire at a Andheri hotel on Sunday. On Sunday around 4 a.m, the airconditioner caught fire and all the four servants Raju Gowda, Anthony, Anup and Ashok Shankar — sleeping on the floor were killed. The D N Nagar police have filed a case of negligence against the owner and manager of the hotel and arrested the duo.
Get-together
The Reserve Bank Retired Employees Association, Mumbai has organised a get together of all retired RBI employees on June 14 at 3 p.m, canteen hall, Amar building, Fort. The function will be presided over by All India Reserve Bank Workers’ Federation general secretary Suryakant Mahadik. Scholarship
The Johnson and Johnson Merit Scholarship for the topper in MBBS examination held by the Mumbai university will be awarded to Dr Deepika Kedia of the Seth G S Medical college on June 13, 1997. The felicitation will take place at the company’s office situated at 30, Forjett street, Mumbai -36. Kedia is being awarded for her performance in the 1996 MBBS examination. The scholarship was initiated in 1987.
Dairy technology
The principal of Dairy Science Institute, Aarey, Mumbai, has invited applications for Diploma in Dairy Technology which will commence from July 1, 1997. The candidate should have passed class XII examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with not less than 50 per cent marks. The prescribed application forms for the 40 seats will be available at the institute from June 10, 1997 and the last date for submitting the duly filled forms is July 5, 1997.
Sweets for merit
MM Mithaiwala, a Malad-based sweet shop has announced a discount on mithai for the successful students of class XII and X. Those securing more than 91 per cent marks will get a discount of 25 per cent, students getting marks between 81 to 90 per cent will get a rebate of 10 per cent, those passing with marks ranging from 61 to 80 per cent are entitled for seven per cent concession while the students in the range of 35 to 60 per cent marks will get five per cent discount. The offer will be valid for ten days after the results are declared.
