
New route for Nethravathi
The Konkan Railway route was opened for the Kerala passengers on Saturday with the Kochi-Kurla Nethravathi Express, the first Mumbai bound train to be diverted on this route, being flagged off from Mumbai. With the opening of this route, the travelling time to Mumbai from Kochi has been reduced by around 12 hours. Besides, the new Konkan Railway line is provided with additional commercial halts by virtue of public demand. The newly introduced additional halts include Chiplun, Kudal, Cancona, Murdeshwar, Kundapura and Surathkal stations.
Alliance Air, IA’s summer offer
Indian Airlines and its subsidiary Alliance Air will offer 35,000 seats in the summer schedule. With effect from March 30, there would be three A300 flights a week on the Hyderabad-Sharjah sector while a fourth frequency has been introduced on the Mumbai-Karachi sector. Flights would now be operated on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. In Mumbai-Bhavnagar sectors, there would be daily A320flights.The hopping Alliance Air service from Mumbai to Delhi via Aurangabad, Udaipur and Jaipur would be operated daily.
Rs 75 lakh collected in car auction
Imported cars worth Rs 75 lakh were sold in a public auction by the Customs department on Saturday. The highest bid was for a Mazda sports model which went for Rs 10 lakh. The bid however, is subject to confirmation of the Commissioner. The cars were seized by the Customs for duty violation and many owners came in at the last moment to pay the duty and retrieve the car. One such car was a Porsche (the only one in the country and worth about Rs 35 lakh).
Majrooh Sultanpuri accepts award
The Wali Dakhti award given by the Maharashtra State Urdu Academy was given to noted lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri by Cultural Affairs minister Pramod Navalkar on Saturday. Navalkar presented the award to Majrooh at the latter’s residence at Bandra this morning in a simple ceremony.
