
Fire in slum: 3, including 2 kids, hurt
ONE person and his two children sustained burns in a fire in a slum at Holy Cross road, Navagaon, Dahisar (W) this morning. According to the city fire brigade, the fire started at around 11 am and gutted about 50 huts. Vasant Chavan, a resident of the slum, his son Vijay and daughter Varsha were burnt before being rescued. Four fire engines and three water tankers battled the fire for half an hour. The injured have been admitted to the Bhagwati hospital. The reason behind the fire could not be ascertained.
CR announces mega block
THE Central Railway will operate a mega block on the suburban railway section from 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday to carry out maintenance of track, over head equipment, signal gear and other equipment. A CR press release said all services from CST to Bandra/Andheri on the Harbour line will be suspended. Services from CST to Belapur/Panvel will run on main line during block period. Passengers travelling to Mumbra and Kalva arepermitted to travel via Diva for connecting local trains as all services between Thane and Diwa stations will be diverted on fast line.
AMC to support doctors’ stir
THE Association of Medical Consultants (AMC) in Mumbai, which consists of private medical practitioners all over the city, has decided to support the agitation of resident doctors. This was decided at a AMC meeting on Saturday, which felt that the demands of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) are justified.
