PUNE, March 4: A host of politicians representing a large number of regional parties from different parts of the country will descend on the cultural capital of Maharashtra on March 14 when the Maharashtra Vikas Agadhi (MVA) floated by Rajya Sabha member Suresh Kalmadi completes a year.

Kalmadi announced the formation of the MVA after breaking away from the Congress on the eve of the last Lok Sabha elections.

Chairperson of the RS Progressive Alliance and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will be the chief guest, while Lok Shakti party president and Union Commerce Minister Ramkrishna Hegde will inaugurate the convention to mark the first anniversary of the MVA, Kalmadi, who is also the convenor of the Progressive Alliance, told reporters here today.

The MVA, Kalmadi said, would present the Maharashtra Package’ during the convention. He, however, refused to spell out the demands in the package saying, “It is being finalised”.

The Progressive Alliance could also unfold its “economic package” at the Pune convention of the Agadhi, Kalmadi said, but refused to divulge details.

To a question, Kalmadi said, “We have all come together to ensure that the Atal Behari Vajpayee Government at the Centre is stable”.

Other prominent leaders who will attend the one-dayconvention include Uttar Pradesh Energy Minister and Loktantrik Congress president Naresh Agrawal, Manipur Chief Minister and president of the Manipur State Congress Nipamacha Singh, Petroleum Minister and Rajiv Congress leader K Ramamurthy, president of Sardar Congress Prithvisingh Jadeja, Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Chandramani Singh, Union Urban Development Minister Ram Jethmalani, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s son Omar Abdullah, Biju Janata Dal MP Tathagat Sathpathi and former Minister Colonel Ramsingh.

Dr Farooq Abdullah’s confirmation is awaited, Kalmadi said.
