As expected, BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu was today re-elected unopposed for a full three-year term. He was installed as the party chief in 2002 after K. Jana Krishnamurthi quit the post. Poll returning officer O.P. Kohli said ‘‘there was only one name. Therefore, Naidu has been declared elected.’’
The election will be ratified by the National Council meeting scheduled to be held in Delhi on February 6. Naidu’s candidature was proposed by PM A.B. Vajpayee and seconded by 19 others, including Deputy PM Advani.
