Speaking at the 40th anniversary of the Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses on Thursday, Navy chief Admiral Arun Prakash said that for India to truly become a regional power, what was needed, was the development of a transnational rapid deployment force to safeguard the country’s interests, across the spectrum of threats.
The Admiral also emphasised that in a troubled neighbourhood, the country’s nuclear deterrence needed to be truly devastating.

‘‘You must be able to convince (the enemy) that the consequences of using a nuclear weapon will be so horrible and devastating, that he should never contemplate it,’’ Admiral Prakash said.
