BHOPAL, NOV 1: The Opposition BJP today walked out of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly protesting the Government’s alleged failure to control the Naxal menace and charging it with giving wrong information to the House on the issue.
The matter was raised through a calling attention motion moved by Kamal Patel, Laxman Singh Gaud and Laxmikant Sharma (all BJP) on Naxalites looting the Chhuriya police station in the State’s Rajnandgaon district.
The Home Minister Nand Kumar Patel said 50 to 70 armed Naxalites tried to loot the police station but their attempt was foiled and in the exchange of fire that took place one Naxalite was killed. The body of the killed Naxalite was taken away by his colleagues, the minister added.
Patel said the deceased Naxalite was Vikram who was carrying a reward of Rs. two lakh on his head.
Responding to this, BJP members said if the body of the Naxalite could not be recovered by the police then it could not be said that he had died and claimed that no Naxalite had died in the encounter.
They said Vikram was still alive though they admitted that one person had indeed been killed in the encounter.
According to the BJP members, the police was claiming to have killed a Naxalite to get promotion and awards.
