Suspected CPI (Maoist) Naxalites today killed eight men and broke the limbs of two others at a village in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district. The killings were reportedly in retaliation for the burning of nine Dalits considered to be Naxalite sympathisers seven years ago by villagers.
Home Minister Jana Reddy condemned the incident. Around 50 armed Naxalites went to Vempenta on Monday night and ordered villagers to follow them to settle a decade-old dispute over cultivation of Endowments lands between two groups. They tied the hands and legs of the villagers and beat eight of them to death and broke the limbs of two others. Twenty others managed to escape.
