The state Government will soon apply to the Centre, requesting for Haldia to be granted the status of Petroleum, Chemicals and Petro-chemicals Investment Region (PCPIR), with Nayachar as the site for the chemical hub. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattcharjee on Tuesday apprised his Cabinet colleagues about the proposal. Later, Chief Secretary Amit Kiran Deb said the state would be sending the application to the Centre soon. The state Government had first placed the proposal for Nayachar as site at an all-party meet held on September 3. After a letter of consent from the Congress, the Commerce and Industries Cabinet Committee approved the proposal on September 17.
