NOV 6: The Nationalist Congress Party leadership is yet to arrive at a consensus on the office bearers to be nominated on the state executive and other committees. Though numerous meetings have been held at various levels on the issue since the past one and a half month, the matter has been kept in abeyance till the end of the month.

So far the party has only elected the state president and the treasurer. The most recent meeting held a few days ago and attended by Sharad Pawar, Chhagan Bhujbal, Babanrao Pachpute, Madhukar Pichad, Anil Deshmukh, Ajit Pawar, Datta Meghe, Sunil Tatkare and Vinayak Mete too failed in their endeavour to nominate the members. Veteran leader Padamsinh Patil was conspicuous by his absence.

Though a committee headed by state party president Baban Pachpute was appointed to look into the nominations, the committee has put up its hands. The final decision now rests with national president Sharad Pawar, said sources.

There are 250 aspirants for the 190 berths that exist on the various committees, thereby making the nominations a tough choice.

Speaking to Indian Express Vinayak Mete ruled out the possibility of dissension amongst senior partymen being the main impediment in the nominations. "There are no discordant notes on the issue. The senior leaders have not been present at this meeting therefore it was not possible to arrive at a decision in their absence. A final decision will be taken by the end of this month," said Mete.

According to party sources disgruntled partymen are hoping for a berth in the committees. "Unfulfilled aspirations can lead to further problems in the party. The announcements should be made and the chapter should be closed. “Joh hoga woh dekha jayega," said a senior party leader.
