Even as the Congress is trying to bring the Peasants and Workers Party back into the Democratic Front in Maharashtra, the NCP today said it wanted PWP’s bete noire Sunil Tatkare (NCP) back into the ministry.

Victory of Tatkare- backed NCP-Congress-Shiv Sena axis in the zilla parishad elections earlier this year had irked the PWP enough to pull out of the DF, pushing it to the brink of collapse.

‘‘We have already informed Deshmukh that the party wants Tatkare back in the ministry,’’ NCP spokesman Vasant Chavan said here today. ‘‘We will not oppose the PWP’s entry in the DF but they should not object to Tatkare’s reinduction,’’ he added.

The NCP’s statement is aimed at preventing the PWP from returning to the Front. In June this year, a tussle between the PWP and Tatkare had culminated into a major political crisis.
