CHENNAI, NOV 21: Quarter-finalists were spotted in the Junior National Badminton championship (boys and girls) though some seeded players, especially in the girls, were sent packing in pre-quarter matches today.

Qualifier BN Ashwini of Karnataka scalped eighth seed B Vahini (A-I) in the pre-quarterfinals (girls) while four other seeded players, including second seed Parul Priyadarshini, were upset.

Ashwini won 13-10, 13-11 while Parul (Rly) bowed to Mugda Bhawgath of Maharashtra 11-9, 11-9.

Other seeded players to lose were fifth seed Ketaki Thakkar (A-I) and sixth seed Neha Gangoli (Mah). While Mumbai’s Neha lost to Karnataka’s Pooja M Patil 11-4, 11-3, Ketaki was defeated by Oli Deka (Asm) 8-11, 11-4, 11-8.Seventh seed Trupti Murugunde of Pune was toppled by Poonam Tivari (UP) 6-11, 11-7, 11-8 in the third round. However, Poonam lost to top seed Divya Ramesh (A-I) in the pre-quarters 11-2, 11-3.

In the boy’s third round, seventh seed Mitesh Hajirnis of Thane was sent crashing out by Uttar Pradesh’sSaranjit Khuswana 5-15, 15-11, 15-10.
