King Gyanendra of Nepal will be attending a marriage procession organised by the Vishwa Hindhu Parishad to commemorate the ‘anniversary’ of Ram and Sita in Janakpur, about 300 km from Kathmandu, on Thursday.VHP leader Ashok Singhal reached Kathmandu today on his way to Janakpur, believed to be the capital of the ancient kingdom of Mithila. King Gyanendra has come in for criticism for his leanings towards the RSS and the VHP. He has been crowned the ‘Vishwo Hindu Samrat’ by the Vishwo Hindu Mahasang, an umbrella organization of the VHP.The procession, which started from Ayodhya, will end at Janakpur on Thursday on the occasion of ‘Vivaha Panchami’, the day Ram and Sita are supposed to have been married. King Gyanendra and Queen Komal are due to embark on a 10-day visit to India beginning December 23.
