NEW DELHI, October 4: Nepal's Galaxy Public School thrashed an off-colour St. George's College (Mussoorie) 4-1 to win the Limca Soccer title at the Modern School grounds here today.Beginning their campaign modestly, the Nepal school team came into focus as the tournament progressed and once they entered the semi-finals, they emerged a strong contender for the title along with a couple of other teams. But today with their skill, speed, stamina and brilliance they outclassed the Mussoorie outfit to win a major title outside their small kingdom.Playing in a `foreign land' is not a comfortable feeling, claimed Nepal team manager G. Thapa. But the Indian supporters were over-awed by the quality of the game dished out by the team from the very beginning. Though the final today turned out to be a one-sided affair, the Mussoorie outfit showed the glimpses of a fightback towards the end but they spilled several scoring opportunities.Galaxy boys took early control of the proceedings and dominated the show for most part of the first half. But somehow they slowded down a bit in the second half and that explains why they managed just one goal in this session. In fact, such was the pressure from the Nepal side that it forced St George's College to rush all their 11 players to fortify their defence. Credit must be given to their goalkeeper Nikhil Thapa, who stood bravely under the bar whenever their defence cracked. It was due to Thapa's efforts that the inflow of goals remained under check.Galaxy opened their account in the 10th minute with a goal from Deepak Limbu, who netted after getting a pass from Rajesh Sahni. Four minutes later, it was Rajesh Sahni who scored after being fed by Raj Kumar Shrestha. Rajesh's strong left-footer aimed towards the right side of the post hit the diving Thapa's fist and went inside while Rabin Byanjankar headed their third goal in the 34th minute and Raj Kumar Shrestha completed the tally in the 43rd minute.A late resurgent by St. George's boys saw them earning a consolation goal in the 48th minute when Pankaj Gurung's shot found the target. The goal served as a morale booster and St George's Colleged tried to lift their game to some extent. This resulted in worthwhile moves and provided them with at least five scoring opportunities in the last few minutes. But an alert subsitute Galaxy goalkeeper Sachin Shrestha denied them the chances.Limca Scholarships: The following 16 outstanding players have been selected for the scholarships Rs 2,000 each.
