Man held with 3.8 kg opium
A north district police team claim to have arrested a person named Radhey Shyam, a resident of Govindpuri, in possession of 3.8 kg of opium. The team, from the Anti Auto Theft squad, were on their way to investigate an auto theft case at about 6.30 p.m., when a person was spotted near Metcalf house on Metcalf road. Police said when they asked him to stop he tried to run. He was finally apprehended and a search of his polythene bag led to the discovery of the opium. He later disclosed his identity as Radhey Sham. He was arrested under the NDPS Act.

Under interrogation, he revealed that he was running a peppermint oil business in Sambhal in UP and was trying to earn more money by peddling drugs.

Two injured in cylinder blast
Two persons — Sunder lal, 60, and his wife Laxmi, 50 — sustained minor injuries when an LPG cylinder exploded in a neighbouring house in Haus Khas on Thursday. The gas explosion, due to a leakage from a cylinder and a refrigerator in the house of M.P. Kajoria, a neighbour, damaged the kitchen’s window panes and lead to the collapse of the kitchen wall. Pieces of broken glass and brick hit the couple, who were asleep in the lawn outside. The Hauz Khas police have registered a case and are investigating.

3 bootleggers held with whisky
PCR staff on Thursday claimed to have nabbed three bootleggers from Moti Bagh crossing. The police stopped a TSR at the crossing on Thursday evening. Two persons, Rodharma and K. Mani, residents of jhuggis in R.K. Puram along with the driver, Shyam Lal, were found in possession of 96 quarters of Bonny Scot whisky. All three, along with the liquor, were handed over to the R.K. Puram police.

Kanishka bell boy commits suicide
A bell boy in Kanishka hotel committed suicide today after drinking a can of Baygon spray. Police said that Ramesh Kumar, aged 35 was suffering from depression for some time though the reason is not yet known. His wife had gone to her hometown. The couple had no children. He left no suicide note behind.

Minor allegedly raped
A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in the Okhla Phase II JJ cluster last night. The accused Santo had called the victim to his house under the pretext that his sister needed her help.

When the victim went into the jhuggi, Santo stuffed a cloth into her mouth and raped her. A case has been registered.

Fatal accident
A fatal accident was reported at the Mehrauli-Badarpur road in Okhla today. The scooterist Bhupender died when his scooter hit a passer-by and he lost balance falling off the scooter and hit the pavement. The passer-by was also injured.

Farmer held for murder
Ghaziabad police have arrested a farmer of village Nivari for killing two of his two brothers over a property dispute. Four other relatives of the deceased, suspected to be involved in the case, are absconding. Shriom (40) and Harcharan (47), two brothers were shot dead by some unidentified persons last night. Nephew of the deceased Krishna Kant, had lodged the report with the police naming Jaiprakash Tyagi, another brother of the deceased, Jaiprakash’s two sons Dinesh and Rajeshwar andhis son-in-law Tapesh. Police arrested Jaiprakash this morning.

Five miscreants loot businessman
Five miscreants intruded the house of a businessman in Rajinder Nagar area on Friday afternoon and looted the family of cash and jewellery. The same gang had looted a house in Shalimar Garden area on Wednesday. According to the police, five men, aged between 20 to 25 years, reached Bharat Singh’s house in a white Maruti car (MIK 2567) and intruded into it. After overpowering the occupants, they looted cash and jewellery and fled.

The matter was immediately reported to the Sahibabad police, which recovered the vehicle used for the crime near the DAV school in Sahibabad area.
