CHANDIGARH, JAN 22: One more "balle balle” singer has hit the charts and is the youngest of the whole lot. Nicknamed Baba Khan by the company Venus, this singer is the one with a good voice and a vivid range.

Baba Khan, nee Riyaz Posle, was brought to the city for a promo press conference by the music company. In fact, his date with the press persons of the city was a prelude to a musical evening with him, Altaf Raza and Sapna Awasthi, slated for March.

Baba, born in Ludhiana, had his first taste of music at the hands of Punjab’s famous singer, Mohammed Saadique. “He was merciless while teaching and did not tolerate mistakes. I learned a lot from him.” Those were the school days and the trouble in Punjab forced the Posle family to migrate to Indore where his initiation into classical music began. And the training now has come of use to him for he, though it is the usual pop fare he has doled out in the album, has an easy command over the pitch.

And, at an age when young aspirants board the train to Mumbai, he too did the same but, unlike many, did not have to struggle much. A chance encounter with a producer at a party took him to Champak Jain of Venus.

A trial run, and Jain spotted the formula in this 25-year-old and commissioned an album. Thus, on December 13, Baba Khan and his album "Balle ni Balle” came up on the MTV Exclusive. The songs are all written and composed by him. "5sr My role models are Gurdas Mann and Daler Mehndi, mainly Mann, who writes his own songs. I will try to do the same for my forthcoming albums. But it does not mean that I will not sing to lyrics by others. I have just come and have a long way to go.”

The music video, directed by Yogesh Sahoo, can be seen all over the music channels. So is it easier now to get companies to launch newcomers than in the past?

“The company will definitely encourage you if you have the talent. Nowadays there are many youngsters who are fond of seeing themselves on screen. They either spend money or use influence to launch themselves. But most of them do not work hard and fade out after sometime.” Baba definitely has a bright future, provided he diversifies.
