NEW DELHI, JAN 27: New Delhi:Taking suo-motu cognisance of the barbaric killing, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today issued show cause notice to state Chief Secretary and its Director General of Police in the matter. According to NHRC sources, the two high officials have been ordered to file response within two weeks.

The Commission has found the incident extremely shocking and has said that such attack on dalits are on the increase and no effective steps seems to have been taken to curb this menace. The Commission has further directed the Bihar Government to take immediate steps to effectively investigate the massacre and bring to book the guilty. The State Government should also take immediate steps to ensure that there was no such recurrence and should grant relief and succour to the members of the families of the deceased and to the injured victims.

Meanwhile, in Patna, DIG (Magadh Range) S K Bharadwaj said a collective fine would be slapped on residents of Dhobi Bigha village as 23 ofthe total 24 named accused were from the village. Dhobi Bigha and Obra villages are adjacent to Shanker Bigha. One of the accused was from Obra village.
