Additional Coroner of the Cooper Coroner’s Court, Chandrakant D Kamble, in his office on Wednesday. He has been given police protection following his complaint that he was attacked by some corporators.
July 2: The Mumbai police had not arrested any of the accused involved in the assault on Additional Coroner of the Cooper Coroner Court Chandrakant D Kamble till late Wednesday night.
Police Inspector Bhagwat Koli at the Juhu Police Station said a police party has left to arrest the accused, but since they do not have the addresses of the accused no arrests are likely to take place before tomorrow morning.
Kamble in his complaint yesterday had alleged that he was assaulted by seven Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) councillors on Tuesday afternoon in his chamber. He had also accused the councillors of ransacking his office. The Juhu police have provided Kamble with police security.
Meanwhile, the BMC’s general body today lambasted Kamble for misbehaving with councillors, including the chairman of the civic health committee Dr Ram Barot. Cutting across party lines, councillors launched a scathing attack on Kamble. They said the additional coroner had no right to misbehave with the representatives of the people. The matter came up for discussion when Barot raised a point of order saying that the police case filed against corporators and the superintendent of Cooper Hospital by Kamble was an act of desperation. He said the councillors were on a scheduled visit to the Cooper Hospital when they decided to visit the coroner after receiving complaints from patients and their relatives.
Shiv Sena corporator and former mayor, Milind Vaidya, who was presiding over the meeting in absence of Mayor Vishakha Raut, reserved his ruling on the point of order till such time a detailed report was placed before the House by the administration.
“The police complaint filed against us is false. Far from beating up the coroner and ransacking his office, we politely asked him about the unhygienic conditions prevailing in the premises.” Barot said. Barot, who has already taken up the matter with the minister of state for Home, Gajanan Kirtikar, appealed to the municipal commissioner to discuss the matter with the chief minister, Manohar Joshi.yyyyyyyy
