VADODARA, July 7: The police have failed to make any headway in the sensational case in which a Alkapuri trader, Kantilal Shah, was allegedly tortured for 36 hours for ransom by Vadodara special branch police inspector N A Rathod’s son and his accomplice.
Though more than 24 hours have elapsed, since the matter was brought to the notice of senior police officers and a case registered against the accused, no arrests have been made in this connection. According to top police sources, the PI’s son — Ghanshyam — was last seen by the police near Fatehgunj circle on Monday but could not be arrested.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Mohan Jha said that police parties had been sent to various places to arrest the inspector’s son and his accomplice and hoped that the duo would be arrested soon.
According to Jha, Ghanshyam had been living in his own house in Shakuntalnangar in Manjalpur area and had been involved in an attempt to murder case in the past as well. The case is still pending with the police, he admitted.
In his complaint to the Makarpura police on Monday, Shah claimed that Ghanshyam had taken’ him away on June 25 to help him out of an old tussle over rent with his tenant, running a garment shop in Alkapuri. But Ghanshyam drove him to his own house and demanded all his money and car, the complainant added. Ghanshyam also tortured and stabbed him several times with a gupti, the complainant said, adding that he was released only after he signed on some blank sheets as well as a couple of stamped papers.
