Wailings of the family members of the 14 coal workers trapped in the CCL mine continue even as the government has decided to take the help of Naval divers in the rescue operations.
“Bring my father back home please,” says 18-year-old Vimla Kumari as tears roll down her cheeks. “Would you please tell them to pump out water quickly,” murmurs Ugni Kumari. “God is not cruel. My husband will come out safe,” hopes Santi Devi.
Even though four electric devices were pumping out water continuously, the mine was still flooded with no signs of survivors.
“At the speed with which water is being pumped out, it may take a few more days to completely drain it out and search for the victims,” the Director General of Mine Safety’s Ranchi Divisional Director Nageshwar Rao told The Indian Express after inspecting the mine today.
There were more than 150 workers headed by its General Manager Md Taslimuddin, Project Officer Umesh Sharma and Colliery Manager N. K. Martanr.
The mining work was carried on in three shifts. The mishap occurred minutes before the last shift was to end at 7.30 pm.
Braving the 44 degree celsius heat at the noon, the relatives stood outside the entry gate of the mine. The callousness of the CCL management was such that even a tent was put up there.
