With the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) restructuring the Bill to be finally tabled in the Winter Session of Parliament, its chairman can heave a sigh of relief. With a fixed term for the chairman proposed in the Bill, incumbent N Gokulram can look forward to job security. His predecessors Pradeep Kumar and J S Maini were shunted out of the NHAI due to differences with Union Shipping and Road Transport Minister T R Baalu. While Kumar lasted just 10 months as NHAI chairman, his successor Maini only about completed two months in the organisation before being pushed out.
