LUDHIANA, March 28: Two days after nine-year-old Harman Singh was kidnapped, there has been no word from the kidnappers after the initial ransom call received some hours after he went missing from the house.

Says the father, Avtar Singh, “The kidnappers couldn’t have known my financial situation very well. My factory hardly has any order and I live in a rented house. But there is no other reason for anyone to kidnap my son.” He added that his son had come home after playing with his friends. He had then left to go to the market to find out more about some wrappers he had been collecting as part of a promotional offer in connection with the cricket World Cup.

Two hours later, the family received a call demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh. The police, who have meanwhile been rounding up some suspects in connection with the case, have made no breakthroughs.
