Talks between Meghalaya and Assam to resolve the boundary dispute appear to have come to a grinding halt, with no visible progress being made on this front.

After last June’s meeting between Meghalaya Chief Minister F.A. Khonglam and his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi, no efforts have been made to continue the dialogue.

The impasse over the dispute between the two states is contrary to what the Union Minister of State for Home I.D. Swamy statement in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that both states had agreed to settle the boundary dispute amicably.

Meanwhile, the state government officials appear to be ignorant of the latest position vis-a-vis the talks and the ground realities regarding this issue between the two states. None of the officials spoken to could provide any information on the latest position.
