CHANDIGARH, Oct 7: North Zone dominated the pool in the boys and girls section on the day one in swimming event held at Western Command Swimming Pool, in the Kendriya Vidyalaya national sports meet here today. Swimmers from north bagged seven gold medals including three in the girls group.

Sandeep Tokas set the ball rolling by winning the under-19 boys 200 metres individual medley in 2:45.17. Benjamin of South Zone was distant second with 3:17.11 followed by Anirban also of South Zone in 3:28.14.

Sandeep also won the 200 metres backstoke event in 2:49.64.

Kuldeep (North) took the 200 metres individual medley gold in the under-17 boys group. He clocked 3:16.24.

While Ravinder Shashi stroked powerfully to bag the fourth gold medal in the boys section in the 200 metres backstroke event. He clocked 3:09.67. J Nobel Kang also of North took the second spot with a time of 3:18.14. Siddharth of West Zone was third in 3:31.15.

Ramandeep got the first place in the 200 metres freestyle event in the girls under-17 section. In the under-14 group, Meenaskhi plunged the pool to win gold medals in 200 metres individual medley and freestyle events.
