Eve Ensler, author of controversial play Vagina Monologues, wonders why it was banned by the Chennai administration. ‘‘It was hard to understand the action of Police Commissioner, Chennai,’’ she said. Leading a delegation of 20 foreign women, Ensler was here to review working of Delhi-based Jagori, an NGO working for rural women.

Ensler said she did not want to enter into any controversy but said the play was performed in 1,100 cities in 23,000 shows and was well received. Currently, Vagina Monologues was being performed by a Mumbai-based Mahabanu, and it would be performed in
