KOCHI, Feb 16: The Kerala High Court today issued urgent notices to the Election Commission (EC) and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Kerala, on a Public Interest Litigation seeking voting facilities to all Indian citizens employed in Gulf countries at the concerned Embassy and Consulates.
Justice Narayana Kurup issued the notices on a petition by Attakoya Pallikandy, chairman, Gulf Malayali Welfare Centre, Kozhikode, seeking to declare as `illegal and void’, the Kerala CEO’s order of August 30, 1994.The order directed that persons employed in the Gulf were not ordinary residents of the state and so had not been included in electoral rolls.
