MUMBAI, November 23: Around 3,800 Technical & Communications Officers attached to AAI have commenced a flash work-to-rule stir from noon today.
This indefinite agitation which follows the breakdown of wage negotiations with the management in Delhi on Friday is expected to paralyse air services again. The stir will affect functioning of crucial equipment like VHF, instrument handing system and other navigational aids at all airports.
“Instead of making extra efforts to maintain equipment, we will take our own time,” said V Mohan, regional secretary, AAI Technical and Communications Officers’ Association. The stir has already affected repairs of the radar which broke down today. However, there has been no disruption in flights. Said sources, talks broke down on Friday after the officers demanded parity in pay and perks with ATCs. “The management is not sincere enough and their representatives did not even read our charter of demands,” said Mohan. Consequently, the strike scheduled for December 2 was launched today.
