ROHTAK, Nov 16: “We cannot carry on our social work under the Magisterial surveillance and police guard,” said Sister Daisy and Sister Litsy, who were roughed up on November 9, to Deputy Commissioner Arun Kumar at Jhajjar 40 km from here today. The Deputy Commissioner said that they have found a place in Jhajjar and were likely to shift in a day or two and that the decision to shift was their own. Referring to rape allegations as “wrong and false”, he said, “no physical violence took place. It is a figment of imagination and is not based on truth.”

It may be recalled that the two nuns of the Franciscan Clarist congregation were living in Khedi Kumhar village, 3 km from Jhajjar and running a convent and tailoring school for the last two years in a rented house. On November 9 it was alleged that nearly 20 to 25 persons tried to force their way into the convent. Finding it bolted from inside, three persons scaled the roof and unbolted the door. They beat up the children and ordered the nuns to leave the village and threatened them of dire consequences if they failed to do so.

The nuns had named eight persons in their compliant but later an agreement was reached.
