Ram Janambhoomi Nyas president Mahant Ram Chandra Paramhans suffered a massive heart attack this morning at Ayodhya and was flown to Lucknow where his condition was said to be critical.Mahant is currently undergoing treatment at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute here. He was preparing to offer prayers this morning at his residence in Digambar Akhada when he complained of severe chest pain and was immediately provided medical assistance.State BJP president Vinay Katiyar and Minister of State for Revenue Ghanshyam Shukla accompanied Mahant to Lucknow in the plane. Mahant has been a key figure in the Ayodhya temple movement and had threatened to end his life in March last year if permission was not granted for building the temple at the disputed site. Mahant, the target of a militant attack last year, had kept the nation on the tenterhooks during the shiladaan programme at Ayodhya in March 2002 in support of the construction of the temple.
