National Conference president Omar Abdullah today said there was no question of change in the party leadership. At a press conference today, Omar said he was ready to quit as party chief if his father Farooq Abdullah asked him and with the approval of 15,000 party delegates.

Asked to comment on reports about party pressure for Farooq’s return as party chief, Omar reiterated that he was an elected president of the party. ‘‘If Farooq saheb asks me to resign and 15,000 party delegates approve it, I am ready to quit,’’ he said, adding ‘‘I will continue to work as president’’.

Omar said Farooq left the party chief’s post as he wanted to leave. The NC president said there was no complaint of indiscipline in the party and everything was fine. He alleged that there was an ‘‘undisclosed pact’’ between CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the Centre. When Mufti was in Opposition, he always supported talks with the Hurriyat but now he was silent on it, he added.

‘‘Gujarat masle par hamein kosne mein Mufti saheb ne koi kasar nahin chhori thi par ab jab Best Bakery waala issue aaya to Mufti saheb ne chuppi saadh li (Mufti had criticised us to the hilt on Gujarat riots, but he is not uttering any word on the Best Bakery issue)’’ he said.

On relations with the NDA, Omar said the party working committee meeting would decide on it. There was no need for the party to remain with the BJP-led NDA, he added.

‘‘Moreover, we never supported NDA policies and our alliance with them was dictated by the exigencies of the prevailing situation,’’ he said.
