PUNE, Jan 25: Picnic turned into tragedy for 60-odd employees of the Mascon Computer Private Limited as a colleague drowned and another was believed to have met a similar fate on the beach at Hari Hareshwar near Mahad on Sunday.

short article insert While the body of one of the victim Ajay Kadam has been found, the Coastal Guards are reportedly still searching for Ravi Natekar who was also washed away by the high tide. All the employees of the firm who returned from Mahad this morning are in a state of shock with the office in Mavalankar Estate near the RTO wearing a deserted look. “It is unfortunate that such an incident has taken place in this 17-year-old organisation,” director A V Ramanathan said addressing a condolence meet.

“We are still waiting for him, he has gone for the office picnic,” said Ajay’s mother still unaware of the accident. But some of the officials of the firm escorted his father to the office and informed him about the incident. “I can never forget the scene,” said an employee with tears in eyes. He recounted: “The incident occurred within 20 minutes of our landing at the beach at Hari Hareshwar. A big tide whipped up and all of a sudden everyone was lost. When the tide disappeared, we heard cries for help. It was Ajaj who was sucked in by the force of the water. Some of boys rushed forward and pulled him out. There was another loud voice and it was Ravi Natekar who is still to be traced.”

The employees said that all their efforts to revive Ajay failed. “We tried to remove water from his body, pressing his stomach and even provided artificial breathing but all in vain.” Both Ajay and Ravi are incidentally the only sons for their parents.
