CHANDIGARH, Sept 29: Sachin and Praveen did not sweat to enter the next rounds of the light and welter weight categories, respectively, in the 23rd Chandigarh State boxing championship which began here today at the Sector 46 Sports Complex. Sachin of Boxing Coaching Centre-46 with a volley of punches sent Jadeep of SD Club-32 on his knee’s in 50 seconds of the first round and forced the referee to stop the contest.

Parveen (SD-32) also took less than a minute to sent Shiv Kumar (SGGS-26) packing in the first round of the welter weight category.

Most of the other bouts held also proved to be one-sided affairs.

Amanpreet outclassed by Sanjeev in the first round of the welter weight and Prem Sharma, with power packed punches made Amrit Pal Singh lick the canvas in the first round.

At the time of weighing-in, in the morning, some of the senior boxers protested against the officials of the Chandigarh Boxing Association (CBA). The players alleged that CBA are fielding outsiders’ in the meet. This was however denied by CK Jerath, secretary, CBA. “No outsider is taking part in the meet. The players are representing their respective institutions and clubs,” said the secretary.

Feather: Chaman Sharma bt Sunil Kumar (RSC 3rd round). Light: Surinder bt Narinder (WP). Light welter: DS Negi bt Rajeev Kumar (Rtd 3rd round). Welter: Sanjeev bt Amanpreet (RSC OC 1st). Light welter: Prem Sharma bt Amrit Pal Singh (KO 1st). Middle: Uma Shankar bt Munish Sharma (RSC OC 1 st). Heavy: Jitender Singh got w/o from Abninder.
