ONGC conducting series of eye camps for needy

VADODARA, Jan 10: ONGC’s Mehsana project is conducting a series of Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) transplantation camps in villages to provide vision to the needy. While the project aims to perform 500 operations, the first such camp was conducted in Ambasan village where 78 operations were performed. In the second camp at village Gozaria, about 35 villagers availed of the free surgery whereas the third camp was organised at the Ved Mata Eye hospital, Mehsana from January 2 to 6. Khodabhai Patel, MP and Minister for Tourism and Industry, senior officials from ONGC, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar and Mehsana projects were present for the camp’s inauguration, where more than 60 people were operated for cataract. Dr Panchal, civic surgeon, Dr Kanpurwala, district health officer of Mehsana, Dr Sindhi and Dr R B Patty of ONGC assisted in the surgeries at the camp.

OIL CONSERVATION FORTNIGHT: TO enhance awareness about the need for energy conservation, ONGC will be celebrating the Oil Conservation Fortnight’ from January 15 to 29. Poster, slogan, essay, and poem writing competition on the theme of oil conservation will be organised for the employees and their family members during the fortnight. Film shows and demonstrations on measures for energy conservation will also be organised by the Energy management of ONGC.

Sports meet: Daxa R Shah, an employee of ONGC, Vadodara participated in the National Sports meet conducted in New Delhi by the Handicapped Welfare Federation and she secured the first position in the discuss throw event. At the 4th National Paraplegics meet in Chennai recently, she was given a special trophy for being the best international sports person. She has on various occasions taken part in national and international level events for the handicapped.

Besides sports, Daxa is also a keen trekker. She has undertaken the Amarnath trek last year and also rendered one month’s voluntary service at one of the base camps.
