Referring to tension and recent violence in Mumbai, Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal on Saturday said being a law and order problem, the issue fell under the state list and therefore was the responsibility of the Maharashtra Government. He said the Centre hoped that the state Government would deal with the issue in a proper manner and had asked it to take the strictest steps possible against law-breakers.
Addressing a press conference here, he said: “Some people want to establish themselves in Maharashtra politics. They are trying to follow the methods and tactics of some of those who have already established themselves in this state’s politics. However, such people should not forget that the common Maharashtrian has done a lot for India’s unity and development.” When asked whether he was referring to MNS chief Raj Thackeray following in his uncle Bal Thackeray’s steps, Jaiswal replied, “I have said what I had to say in the manner I felt best. It is up to you all to interpret and understand what I meant.”
