Olympians Chetan P Baboor and Mouma Das along with two others met their match as the Indian challenge ended in a whimper at the World Table Tennis Championship in Paris last night.

According to information received here, all the four Indian paddlers, including two women, were knocked out by their higher ranked rivals in the first round itself.

Three-time Olympian Chetan Baboor was swept off his feet by world No. 41 Japan’s Toshio Tasaki in a one-sided contest.

Baboor had no answer to the attacking game of Tasaki and went down 6-11, 9-11, 6-11, 8-11. A. Sharath Kamal lost to Christophe Legout 2-11, 11-6, 11-6, 15-13, 11-6.

In the women’s section, Mouma Das bowed out to Georgina Pota 10-12. 11-9. 9-11, 12-14. 8-11, and then Malaysia’s Yao Lin Jing overpowered Mantu Ghosh 12-10, 11-6, 11-3, 11-5. In the women’s doubles, Mauma Das and Mantu Ghosh too ended on the losing side.
