Surat, April 27: The Lioness Club of Surat has decided to donate a mobile Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ambulance to the Sir P T Surat General Hospital of the city on Tuesday. According to the club the fully equipped ICU van will facilitate better services to about 22 lakh people residing over an area of 107 kms in the city.

While the club donated the vehicle, the Surat General Hospital fitted it out with a number of equipment of the ICU operation theatre and life-saving drugs. A doctor and a nurse will be manning the vehicle.

Although the city hospitals have adequate ambulances, these merely serve as vehicles for carrying patients, the club said, adding that with the addition of the mobile ICU van, patients could be treated in the van, even as they were being shifted to a hospital.
