DERA BASSI, May 27: Over 600 rural women of the township and its surrounding areas were medically examined at a paediatrics and gynecology check-up camp organised by the Ladies Wing, Dera Bassi, at Government High School here today.

Punjab Finance Minister Capt. Kanwaljit Singh’s wife, Sarbjit Kaur, was the chief guest.

Highlighting the importance of health camps, Director, Health Services, Manmohan Kaur Kang, asked social organisations to come forward to organise such programmes, especially in rural areas.

Kang urged women to take a nutritive diet as 70 per cent women of the country have been found suffering from anaemia. She also stressed upon the need to create awareness against the diseases like AIDS.

Chandigarh-based Gurnam Singh and Company donated an ambulance to the wing and club president Bibi Labh Kaur assured that a three-day health awareness camp would be organised in villages once a month.

Patients suffering from various diseases were provided free medicines at the camp.
