A high-level Pakistani delegation led by its Indus Commissioner Syed Jamaat Ali Shah will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir to inspect Baglihar and Kishanganga power projects. Pakistan has shown reservations regarding the design of the 330-MW Kishanganga hydel project coming up in North Kashmir’s picturesque Gurez Valley.
“Pakistan’s Indus Commissioner will be visiting the state either on Monday or Tuesday,” Power Development Corporation (PDC) spokesperson told The Indian Express.
India’s Indus Commissioner and other officials are negotiating with their Pakistani counterparts to quell apprehensions raised by the Pakistan Government over the construction of a power house on river Kishanganga. Earlier, Pakistan had raised similar objections over the design of the Baglihar power project.
Designs of the Kishanganga power project came up for discussion between the two commissioners in the meeting. Pakistan has raised objections about the design of the project and blamed the Jammu Kashmir Power Development Corporation for diverting the direction of Kishanganga. The officials believe the project will harm the hydel power project in Neelam Valley (PoK), which is being constructed with China’s assistance on their side of the river.
